Plane crash investigation pinpoints wing-flap problem
Austin News.Net Friday 10th October, 2008
An investigation into the crash of a Spanish passenger jet in August has shown the wing flaps were in the wrong position.
Investigators have revealed a warning system failed to alert the pilots, resulting in the crash of Spanair flight 5022 from Madrid's.
The MD-82 plane reached an altitude of just 40 feet, before crashing to the ground and bursting into flames.
Investigators have not been able to unravel the mystery of why the wing flaps failed to deploy.
Only eighteen people survived the crash, which has been listed as western Europe's worst air disaster in two decades.
