Thai court drops serious charges against protestors

Court action in Thailand has led to insurrection charges against nine members of the PAD protest group to be dropped.
The People's Alliance for Democracy, which is seeking to topple the government of Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat, had this week been involved in violent clashes with police, resulting in the charges being laid.
The court ruling has not only ordered that insurrection charges be dropped against PAD leaders, but also called for “softer” means to be used to prevent demonstrations.
The leaders still face other charges of inciting arrest and illegal assembly which could see them sent to jail.
Protesters continue to occupy the grounds of parliament, after the violent clashes with police on Tuesday that left two dead and hundreds injured.
Deputy Prime Minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh, who resigned after the violence, has told the Bangkok Post that he believes a military coup is the only way out of the impasse.
PAD protesters have been trying to end the current government, which they see as being linked to the former elected Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who now lives in exile in Britain.
